St. Michael Indian School, which serves preschool through 12th grade, recently opened enrollment for the 2020-20201 academic year.
Open grades for enrollment are Pre-K, Kindergarten and fourth through 11th grades, St. Michael Indian School (SMIS) reported on its Facebook page. The school, located in Saint Michaels, has limited availability for Pre-K, Kindergarten, fourth, fifth and sixth grades. Children can be put on waitlists for grades one, two and three.
Applications must include a $25 new student application fee, according to the SMIS website application page. After an application is submitted, parents are contacted about a campus tour or a financial aid appointment. Students are asked to complete a placement test within two weeks of the application submission.
“Our mission is to provide students from local Native American communities with a quality education that is rooted in Catholic values, is sensitive to native heritage, teaches leadership skills and enables students to contribute in a culturally diverse world,” SMIS said on its Facebook page.
The school balances education through a college preparatory curriculum and faith formation. An exploration of service, sports and clubs is part of students’ education.
“Our community sets an encouraging, supportive and diverse atmosphere with dedicated faculty, championship athletic programs and enriching music and art education,” SMIS said on Facebook.
Graduates move on to higher education including Yale, Stanford, Notre Dame, MIT, Georgetown, Dartmouth and Cornell.
