St. Michael Indian School launched a weekend version of its Meals to Go program starting on June 19.
Weekend bags include two breakfast meals, two lunch meals and a snack for Saturday and Sunday, the school said on its Facebook page.
The weekends bags can be picked up at the high school parking lot on Fridays along with the regular meal bag for that day.
Meals are provided for children 18 and under at the school from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., the school said on its Facebook page. Children must be present to receive a meal bag.
Offering weekend meal bags is is an expansion of the weekday program which is available Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The weekday program provides lunch for that day and breakfast for the next morning.
St. Michael launched the weekday program in March to help fight hunger following school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We recognize children in our community need to have healthy nutritious meals for optimal development,” Dot Teso, president of St. Michael Indian School told the community in a post on the school's website. “Our food service program will be here to help prepare and serve up meals for our community children.”
