Salpointe Catholic High School President Kay Sullivan issued a statement and prayer for the nation amid the COVID-19 pandemic and weeks of civil unrest after the death of George Floyd.
The prayer and an open letter to the Salpointe community was published to the school website on June 5.
“Today, in 2020, we are all in the midst of a global COVID-19 pandemic with 6,500,000 cases and 387,000 deaths," she told Salpointe Catholic High. "Our strong economy has collapsed and over 20,000,000 Americans are unemployed. Now in this same moment we find ourselves in the midst of coast to coast protests against racism sparked by the tragic death of George Floyd…”
She made it clear that the organization stands against racism and any form of hatred or violence. Her thoughts continue in prayer.
“And so we pray, Lord, teach us to raise our moral voices in prayer that transcends the cacophony of society’s indifference, racism, hatred and injustice. Then, and only then, shall we breathe freely,” Sullivan prayed, Salpointe Catholic High reported.
