The Diocese of Tucson congratulated one of its parishioners who has been named a finalist for the Lumen Christi Award.
“Congratulations to Jean Fedigan, founder and director of Sister Jose Women's Center for being named a finalist for the prestigious Lumen Christi Award!” the diocese posted on Facebook recently.
The Catholic Foundation for the Diocese of Tucson explained what that could mean.
“As a finalist for the Lumen Christi Award, Jean will receive a $10,000 grant from Catholic Extension to support the ministry of Sister Jose Women's Center,” the Foundation said on social media. “The Catholic Foundation is also excited to be honoring Jean and Sister Jose Women's Center at our 40th Annual Cornerstone Gala on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022!”
Dioceses across the country can nominate people for the Lumen Christi Award, and Catholic Extension selects several finalists, each of whom receives a $10,000 grant to support their work. Of the finalists, an award recipient is selected and that person will receive an additional $25,000 grant. The Lumen Christi Award celebrates people who are shining Christ's light in their community through service.
Fedigan is the founder and CEO of the Sister Jose Women's Center. The center cares for homeless women in Tucson; helping them to become independent so they can go on to live on their own; while providing necessities such as meals, clothing, and access to laundry and showers.
