The Diocese of Phoenix celebrated the feast day of St. Andrew the Apostle on Nov. 30 with the inclusion of a prayer on their Facebook page.

As part of their celebration, the Diocese of Phoenix includes a prayer on their Facebook post, reading, "Hail, and blessed be the hour and moment at which the Son of God was born of a most pure Virgin at a stable at midnight in Bethlehem in the piercing cold. At that hour vouchsafe, I beseech Thee, to hear my prayers and grant my desires. Amen.” The prayer is meant to be repeated throughout the feast day.

“Today is the Feast of St. Andrew the Apostle and the beginning of the St. Andrew Novena, a powerful 25-day novena leading up to Christmas. Traditionally, the prayer below is said 15 times per day beginning Nov. 30 for a particular intention. St. Andrew, pray for us!" said the Diocese of Phoenix in their Facebook post.

According to Catholic Online, St. Andrew was one of Jesus’s 12 apostles and was recruited alongside his brother, St. Peter, when they were fishing in the Sea of Galilee. The Bible states that Saint Andrew was very close to Jesus and traveled around what is now Greece and Turkey preaching the Gospel following Jesus's death. Andrew was later put to death in the city of Patras by crucifixion on an x-shaped cross, which has come to be known as “St. Andrew’s Cross,” supposedly because he did not believe himself to be worthy of crucifixion on the same type of cross as Jesus.

St. Andrew is considered the patron saint of Scotland, Ukraine and Russia, as well as fishermen and singers, according to Britannica.
