Catholic Charities Community Services (CCCS) and Housing Solutions of Northern Arizona have received more than $5 million in federal funding for the JoJo's Place project, which will help individuals experiencing homelessness find temporary housing.
JoJo's Place is one of three projects to receive a portion of $15.35 million in federal money from Gov. Doug Ducey and the Arizona Department of Housing (ADOH) through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG-CV) Program.
“We must do all we can to ensure Arizonans in need have access to safe, clean and reliable housing," Ducey said in a press release, "The homeless shelters in Phoenix, Kingman and Flagstaff will support and protect vulnerable Arizonans and put them on a path toward a better life. I’m thankful to the Arizona Department of Housing and the local partners involved for their dedication to combating homelessness in Arizona.”
CCCS, which partnered with Housing Solutions of Northern Arizona to establish JoJo's Place, will use the funds to acquire and restore a 44-unit motel in Flagstaff.
Housing Solutions of Northern Arizona will repurpose the hotel rooms into studio apartments; CCCS will provide occupants with on-site case management services.
The project's purpose is to offer safe and inexpensive housing as well as guidance to those transitioning to permanent living situations.
CCCS of Arizona assists individuals who are impacted by domestic abuse, homelessness and sex trafficking, as well as refugees, veterans, and children, according to the organization's website
Other CDBG-CV-funded housing projects include Project Haven, which offers accommodation for older adults, and the Kingman Veterans Shelter, which provides temporary housing for veterans.
