St. Henry Catholic Church in Buckeye recently shared a reflection on the practice of Eucharistic Adoration.

The practice of adoration is one that is centuries old and is part of devotion and ritual connected with the Sacrament of the Eucharist, though many cradle Catholics may not understand the technical side.

"In a particular way, Eucharistic Adoration is an extension of the worship and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament that occurs in every Mass," the reflection, published in the church's Nov. 29 bulletin, said.

When participating in Eucharistic Adoration, it is common to end with a "blessing of the faith with the Blessed Sacrament."

Interestingly, however, is the fact that there are certain ways to approach Eucharistic Adoration that are important to adopt.

"Care should always be taken that these periods of adoration respect the instructions outlined in 'Holy Communion and Worship of the Eucharist Outside of Mass,' the liturgical book that gives the instructions for the proper celebration of Eucharistic Adoration," the reflection stated

It is imperative to remember that while the Blessed Sacrament does make an appearance during the Sacrament of the Eucharist, it is not a replacement for partaking of the Lord's body.

"Many Catholics find great comfort and consolation in their prayers before the Eucharist enshrined in the tabernacle or when it is exposed in the monstrance (both are equally valid, as the Christ is not more present in one than in the other)," the reflection said

Eucharistic Adoration is an excellent way to help us more fully celebrate the Eucharist in the Mass and grow closer to our Lord. Through spending time in his presence under the appearance of the Blessed Sacrament, we can grow in special devotion to him and grow closer to his heart. He holds us in his hands; we must simply allow ourselves to hear what he has to say to us.
