November is a special time for Catholics; Fr. Kilian McCaffrey, pastor of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Sun City, said recently.

"November is a very holy month, dedicated to prayer, to honor the Saints and to intercede for the holy souls," McCaffrey said in the church's Nov. 8 bulletin. "It is the month when the Mass reminds us that our Lord will come again, that this life is not all that there is and we wisely prepare for Christ the King and Advent."

McCaffrey commented that it's important to remember Jesus' words on how to faithfully know, love and serve God.

He also noted that sometimes young people can be wise and sometimes they are foolish, that they are sometimes fickle and impressionable.

"Our Lord tells us that people will try to take away our faith," McCaffrey said in the bulletin. "Don’t ignore this most really clear meaning of Christ’s parable of the Wise and the Foolish. Yes, by faith and baptism, we all have the promise ... of entering into eternal life with God and the saints."

The pastor said it's important to consider what our goals are.

"It all depends on what we choose to seek as our goal, primary life. The best use of our freedom consists in making our loving friendship with God into that highest goal— that’s true wisdom," McCaffrey stated. "But God won't do that— if he did, it wouldn’t be friendship of a loving choice."

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Plenary Indulgences that are done for the deceased faithful will continue all month to make sure everyone stays safe, McCaffrey said. The Vatican’s Apostolic Penitentiary received many petitions from pastors asking to extend the Plenary Indulgences.

"Use this month wisely: pray for the holy souls," he said.

Fr. McCaffrey concluded by thanking the Knights of Columbus and everyone who helped the First Way Pregnancy Center in Phoenix with the collection the prior weekend.
