Seemingly good and innocent things can take the bulk of our attention and pull us away from God into a direction that is not for the best. | FotoRieth / Pixabay
Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Tucson shared a recent note from the pastor on forms of modern idol worship.
Fr. Christopher Orndorff explained that Paul’s letter to the Thessalonians was an example of people who turned away from idols and decided to serve God fully.
“Often, we gloss over that 'turning from idols and embracing the living and true God,'" Orndorff said in the church's Oct. 25 bulletin. "After all, we don’t offer sacrifices to the god of this or the god of that in the backyard. But there are still a lot of things that demand our time, energy and resources."
All of those things, no matter how good they may be, can pull us away from God and into a direction that is not for the best. But if we turn away from those temptations and things in our lives that can distract us, we can devote ourselves more fully to God and furthering his kingdom.
“What's yours (your temptations), and what helps you to turn away and serve the living and true God?” Fr. Orndorff asked in the bulletin.
