Gov. Doug Ducey
The idea of shuttering the economy due to Covid is deeply unpopular with Arizona’s Catholic population.
Of those polled by Arizona Catholic Tribune, 86.3%, or 352 respondents, disagree with any future economic lockdowns.
Arizona Catholic Tribune asked poll respondents, “Would you support another economic lockdown?”
The poll ran Oct. 15-21 on Facebook and was targeted to Catholics living in Arizona, resulting in 408 responses.
Gov. Doug Ducey recently announced the state would not undergo another lockdown. Arizona was first locked down in April and again in June.
Leading public health experts from Harvard, Stanford and Oxford have advocated against future lockdowns.
In the face of much lower fatality rates and the long-term economic damage to the economy, many are now arguing lockdowns could have a more devastating impact on the long-term health of those in isolation.
The World Health Organization has also called lockdowns “harmful,” with such a pronounced economic impact on communities that public health outcomes may be affected for a generation.
