In the recent Gospel reading, Jesus is confronted by Pharisees and Herodians desiring to trap him with what they consider to be a question that, no matter how He answers, will get Jesus into trouble.
In considering the wise response Jesus gave his adversaries, the parishioners of San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church in Flagstaff were asked to consider another important question: What does belong to God?
As Jesus told the religious men to give to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s, it is easy in noting His denying them a trap that the question is not immediately answered in the story.
In the other readings from the day, however, the answer becomes clear: that all we have and all we may become is from God, the church's Oct. 18 bulletin said.
“If we are truly honest in our reflection, the conclusion we will reach is that everything is God’s,” the homily stated. “We are to be good stewards of it all.”
