In the Sept. 27 bulletin from San Francisco De Asis Catholic Church in Flagstaff, the concept of humility, the importance of bending low in order to be raised up, is emphasized.
“No one can attain the knowledge of God but by humility,” the message quoted Giles of Assisi. “The way to mount high is to descend.”
And so that message of the primacy of humility was reinforced in readings from Ezekiel, the Gospel of Matthew and the words of Saint Paul. Yet, in no place is the primacy of humility more evident than in the story of Jesus Christ, for even He had to humble Himself before being raised up to the right hand of God.
In embracing the path God has laid out before the faithful, humility is key, because God must be permitted to change our hearts and minds. It is humility that opens the faithful up and allows that transformation to take place.
