St. Francis Xavier in Phoenix shared an introduction of Joshua Condon, their new director of music, in the parish's Sept. 13 bulletin.
“It is without hesitation that I can say I have been abundantly blessed in being your new Director of Music & Liturgy,” Condon said in the bulletin. “The past six weeks have been a whirlwind of exciting new adventures and challenges, but the staff has been incredibly welcoming and supportive— everything a new employee could have asked for!”
Growing up in a devout family as one of eight children, Condon studied piano from the age of six and in college became the music director for his parish.
After graduating from Ithaca College in 2014, he worked at regional concert houses as a choral and symphonic conductor and later worked with Norwegian Cruise Lines as the theatrical music director. It was with the cruise line that Condon met his wife in 2016. The couple was married in 2018.
“I continued to be a freelance music director in the area, working for various theatrical companies before eventually becoming the full-time resident music director for Arizona Broadway Theatre in Peoria, and also the music director/conductor for the Department of Theatre Arts at Xavier College Preparatory,” Condon said.
In the midst of the pandemic, Condon noted that he felt called to return to music ministry to help serve the Church and the Lord. He feels blessed to be serving at St. Francis Xavier and is looking forward to a fruitful career.
“I have always felt the call to use music to help bring people into a deeper relationship with God, and I could not have asked for a more amazing parish to serve at!" Condon said. "As we look toward the future, I am excited to help support the mission of our baptismal call to be Christ for others, and to help create opportunities for the Holy Spirit to do His best work in our community."
