St. Thomas Indian Mission Church, located in Fort Yuma, California, published "Prayers of the Faithful" in their Aug. 9 bulletin.

The church prayed for peace due to recent unrest in the nation and for the medical professionals on the front lines dealing with COVID-19.

"We pray for peace where there is no peace — in places where there is the constant threat of violence, in places of unspeakable poverty," the prayer said. "For peace . . . we pray. We pray for justice where there is no justice —when people cheat others without hesitation, when people take more than their share, when people rush too fast and think only of themselves."

The church also prayed for the safety of hospital staff who are working against the coronavirus pandemic.

"And for the safety of Ofelia Figueroa and other members of the hospital staff who are working directly with COVID patients . . . we pray," the prayer continued. "We pray for all those who have died. . . ."

The full prayer can be found here.
