All Saints Roman Catholic Parish in Mesa shared a gospel reflection about the different kinds of hunger in its Aug. 2 weekly church bulletin.

While there are many people in the world who suffer from physical hunger, there are also those who are starving for spiritual and emotional nourishment.

“People live in relationships that actually starve them,” the bulletin said. “They are abused, exploited, disrespected, laughed at and marginalized.”

While there are certainly more than enough resources to provide for the physical needs of people, there should also be enough emotional and spiritual love to go around. But sometimes the more that we have in terms of privilege and possessions the more easy it is to become spiritually and emotionally starved.

“We may not think that we have enough to respond to and to satisfy all of the needs, but we do,” the bulletin read. “It doesn’t take much. With God, all things are possible. Our faith provides the direction for where God’s children must go to find the nourishment they seek.”
