Randy Lazar has been named the new principal at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School in Casa Grande, the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church announced in a recent weekly bulletin.

Lazar has worked in public education for more than 33 years. He has taught both special and general education, been an elementary school principal and director of special education, and served as an Arizona Department of Education education program specialist.

Lazar wrote in the bulletin that he is excited by the opportunity to bring his experience and abilities to a different setting, a Catholic school. He said he may take the opportunity to "read at Mass, or serve communion as a Eucharistic minister, or serve as a volunteer for a fundraising activity.

“It will be an honor and a blessing for me to serve as the principal of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic School," he said. "I am looking forward to a great school year. As the new principal, I will continue to foster strong faith, academic excellence and selfless service.”

He majored in education at Arizona State University and is an active member of the St. George Roman Catholic Church in Apache Junction, where he serves as a Eucharistic minister, lector, Life Teen core member, and an all-year volunteer for numerous events and activities.

Lazar lives in Mesa with his wife of almost 30 years, Joyce, and their two children, Veronica and Michael. Veronica just finished her freshman year of college, while Michael will be a sophomore in high school.
