At Christ the King Roman Catholic Church in Mesa, parishioners who switch from placing donations in the church offering plate to online donations could help the church earn a handsome reward.

The move could help protect the fiscal health of the church in the financially uncertain age of COVID-19. New online donations from June 21 to Aug. 31, up to $32,340, will be matched by a “generous Catholic family,” Fr. Rolyn Francisco announced.

“The donor family wants to help our parish build a more stable, reliable offertory,” Franciso wrote in a Facebook post. “They also want to help protect the health of our volunteer money counters who are often older, by decreasing the amount of cash gifts and moving donations online.”

If parishioners who are already donating online increase the amount they give, the entire donation will qualify for the match.

“Please consider switching to online giving,” Franciso wrote. “I am humbled by this offer and this generosity. I am hoping and praying that you will rise to the occasion and help our parish take advantage of this opportunity to raise up to $32,340.”

The donor family wishes to remain anonymous, Francisco said.
