Saint James Roman Catholic Parish issued the following announcement on May 10
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In this Easter season, as we focus on Christ rising from the grave, it is fitting we recall our Risen Lord is always with us, especially in the most trying and difficult times. He has been with us through this worldwide pandemic; and He will be with us as we arise from it and strive to restore parish life. We at St. James are following the lead of the Diocese of Phoenix and are making plans for restoring parish life in harmony with the State of Arizona and Federal directives
Our faithful and clergy here at St. James are longing for the Sacraments and for parish life of the Church to be restored in its fullness. The desire for public Masses and the ability for the faithful to receive Holy Communion is strong and understandable. Our desire for our people to remain healthy and to protect the most vulnerable among us is also essential. We will begin moving toward the goal of full restoration of parish life - but with prudence. We will strive to balance the very real spiritual needs of the faithful with our great concern for the physical wellbeing of our parishioners and the wider community. The Diocese of Phoenix is calling the gradual restoration: Rising with Christ.
Here at St. James, we have started the preparation period. We ask for your patience as our progress will be gradual and not perfect. There will be challenges and frustration.
Our first step in the planning stage, is to invite you, our brothers and sisters to join us for our Facebook Live Streaming Masses at 4pm on Saturday, 8am or 11am (Spanish service), and immediately following Mass, join us at St. James to share Holy Communion. This will be made available for one hour following the completion of each of the Masses: 5-6pm on Saturday; 9-10am on Sunday, 12-1pm following the Spanish service. The Masses can be viewed using this link: https://www.facebook.com/stjamesromancatholic/
First: The general dispensation from Sunday Mass obligation continues. Those who are vulnerable or feel safer staying home are encouraged to do so.
Second: We will do all in our power to keep safe: All will practice social distancing (keeping at least six feet apart when coming into contact with others). Parishioners coming to St. James will need to practice good hygiene including washing hands with soap and water regularly, using hand sanitizer, and masks are specifically encouraged.
Third: Our volunteers will be in masks; They will help organize our faithful to follow a path that will encourage social distancing, and continually clean and disinfect our church, restroom, and public spaces. They will help us follow the guidance given by the Diocese, so please be patient and kind.
Finally, even with all precautionary measures taking place, we should still be mindful and make our parishioners aware that risk of exposure to the virus remains for those who attend. Individuals/families need to take personal responsibility for their own health and safety.
I realize there will be many questions, and we will work to answer all in time. This is our first step to begin Rising with Christ at St. James, and I am very happy to be given the opportunity to share Holy Communion with you after such a long time.
God is Good, all the time! And all the time God is Good!
