The parochial administrator of a Phoenix Catholic church that experienced a fire a year ago said that God’s merciful love is restorative.
The Rev. Reggie Carreon of Saint Joseph Catholic Church quoted the writings of Saint Maria Faustina Kowalska in his April 18 reflection, “The Heart of Jesus Christ.” The saint recorded in a diary the message of God’s divine mercy as evidenced through Jesus Christ’s heart.
“His Sacred Heart has given men everything: Redemption, Salvation ad Sanctification,” Carreon wrote in the reflection.
“St. Faustina saw coming from this Heart that was overflowing with generous love, two rays of light which illuminated the world. The TWO RAYS: (according to what Jesus Himself told her), denote Blood and Water (Diary 299). The Blood recalls the sacrifice of Golgotha and the mystery of the Eucharist; the Water, according to the rich symbolism of St. John, makes us think of Baptism and the Gift of the Holy Spirit. (Jn. 3, 5; 4, 14).”
Carreon wrote that the secret to true and lasting happiness is “through the mystery of this wounded heart” in which God’s merciful love currently spreads over men and women.
“Jesus said to St. Faustina one day: ‘Mankind will not have peace until it turns with trust to my Mercy. (DIARY 300),'” Carreon wrote in the reflection.
Saint Joseph Catholic Church parishioners also heard words of comfort from Carreon after their church building was destroyed by fire last May 1 on the feast of St. Joseph the Worker, the parish’s patron, The Catholic Sun reported
Just hours later the Rev. Carreon celebrated Mass in the parish hall. He referenced the psalm for the day, "'The Lord hears the cry of the poor.' I’d like to change that to 'The Lord hears the cry of St. Joseph parishioners,’” Carreon said, the Catholic Sun reported.
